December Meeting

Another DCTYC meeting is wrapped up, members, and it was a fun one. Many thanks to all the members that came, and to those of you that could not, don't worry, you're still great and let me tell you what you missed. We had some pizza and cookies, watched a reading from the new Rosebud Players show, and played some games. It was good fun.

That was the last meeting of 2007, but the first meeting of 2008 is right around the corner. It will be a design and production workshop on January 10th. I'll have more details soon, so watch out for the next upcoming letter. Then in February, we will do some reading from scripts; I will also have more details soon. So "Happy Holidays!" YC members, and enjoy your Dallas Cowboys beautiful 12-1 record!

Holidays

Hello DCTYC members!

I hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving. I know I did. Now it is time for the cold weather and the holidays. DCT has two December shows going right now, A Little House Christmas and The Nutcracker, so there is lots of fun stuff to do - including a DCTYC Holiday Party. On December 6th, at the Rosewood Center we'll have a party to celebrate the holidays and the success of the Youth Council this year. Woohoo!

This is our last meeting of 2007, and the next time we meet will be right after my birthday. Match that with the incredible 11-1 record of your Dallas Cowboys and it's a good time to be Johnny. Of course, DCTYC members, it wouldn't be nearly such a great time to be Johnny if it weren't for the fantastic success of the Youth Council, so thanks for making me look good.

That's all for now YC members. Have fun and be safe till I see you all next, and as always....Go Mavs and Go Cowboys....oh... and Yay DCTYC!

Well, that was fun!

Hello DCTYC members. I hope everyone that joined us for Cafe Beat had a great time, and I hope everyone that couldn't join us did something else that was fun. But what could be more fun than Cafe Beat, huh? Maybe I like the idea a little more than most because of the coffeehouse angle and my unnatural love of a good cup of coffee.

Anywho....Thank you to all of the YC members and Teen Conservatory students that showed some guts, went up, and performed. Everyone was great, even the short guy that played the electric mandolin, although he was my least favorite...

I especially liked the performance by the improv troupe. I'm a big fan of improv, so that is my style of entertainment. It's also just great that these talented artists get a chance to show more people what they can do. I hope everyone that hadn't seen them before were as impressed as I was. Andy Long served as emcee and made sure the show kept moving along and I think it was nice and smooth. Many thanks to Andy.

Well, that all for now, YC members. I hope everyone is doing well, and oh.... GO COWBOYS and GO MAVS!!!

Cafe Beat

Well, DCTYC members, it's November and that means it's time to gear up for Cafe Beat. I wasn't at this event last year, but apparently, it was a lot of fun. From my own personal experience, open mic events are pretty awesome. Andy Long will be hosting the event as MC, and the Improv Troupe will be performing. It's gonna be sweet.

But what about you, DCTYC members? Who among you is going to step up and perform? Anybody got the guts? Too much taunting? Not enough?

Anywho...Cafe Beat will be fun. Speaking of fun, on Halloween night, there was a Night of the Living Dead performance and after-party; and thanks to some YC members, the cast and crew of the show, and especially Kineta and Caleb Massey, it was a great success. The decorations were awesome and the atmosphere was cool. Many thanks to all of those involved.

And of course the Dallas Mavericks opened their season Wednesday with a win; and they play again tonight. Mix that in with your impressive Dallas Cowboys resuming their season after a bye-week, and you've got a happy time to be Dallas sports fan. Those are my two teams, so it's a good time to be Johnny Sequenzia! What blog entry would be complete without my sports update, right?

See ya soon,

Johnny

Almost Halloween

Hello DCTYC Members! Well it's almost Halloween and for those of you that like candy, it's a great time of year. I, personally, don't eat a lot of candy, so if you do, have another piece for me. I guess a cup of coffee is my treat; and if you know me, you know I like my coffee!

Anywho...I'm doing this awesome Halloween show called Night of the Living Dead and if you haven't seen it yet, you should. If you have seen it, see it again. Why not? It's fun! And remember, I'd love to have as many DCTYC reviews of the show as possible.

Halloween also means the beginning of the Mavericks season. On the 31st, your Dallas Mavericks will take on the defending Eastern Conference Champion Cleveland Cavaliers. This couldn't come at a better time for me because your Dallas Cowboys have a week off. By the way they're 6-1, which is pretty awesome.

I hope you all are doing well and I'll see you soon for Cafe Beat. (I'll be sending info soon)

So long,

Johnny

October 11th Meeting

Well, thank you to everybody that was able to make it to the 2nd DCTYC meeting of 2007-2008. We had a great turnout for the preview and workshop last Thursday and everyone seemed to have a good time. If you weren't able to make it, let me tell you what you missed.

We started out in the Dance Studio because we wanted to begin with some ballet...just kidding, we had snacks and talked in the Dance Studio. Then everyone made their way to the Robyn Flatt Studio Theater for the preview of Night of the Living Dead. Hopefully, some reviews written by DCTYC members will be posted soon. Finally, members of the YC did a workshop on fright makeup with Doug Burks where they got a chance to look just as scary as the creatures in the show. They looked pretty awesome!

I'll be writing more about November and Cafe Beat soon, but for right now, just know that September and October have been really great. We have a fantastic bunch of DCTYC members from all over the metroplex of many different ages and schools. Yay us!!!!

So long for now and GO COWBOYS! (even though New England stomped us this weekend)
I mean, 5 and 1 is still pretty darn good......Anyway, bye.

Columbus Day

I don't really have anything to say about Columbus, but that's the date and I didn't have a better title in my head.

It's Monday and the next DCTYC meeting is this Thursday. As I'm getting ready for this meeting I'm also looking ahead to the November event. November is when we have the first Cafe Beat of the season. Although I've never been to one, myself, I understand it is one of the more popular events that DCTYC has to offer. By the way, if you were at Cafe Beat last year feel free to comment on this blog for those of us that haven't yet had the expierience.

Anywho, the tech rehearsals for Night of the Living Dead went very well this weekend and, in my opinion, we are ready for an audience. You, DCTYC members, will be the first chance we will have to get some audience reaction. I can't wait! Hopefully, many of you will want to write a review of the play, and we can post it for everyone else to see.

That's all I've got for now; I've got to continue preparations for the 11th. So long for now, and of course, GO COWBOYS! (4-0 and about to play Buffalo tonight)

Random Stuff

How's it going DCTYC members? I'm going to try to update this blog as often as possible, and once again, I encourage you to respond....unless you're too scared. Just kidding...kinda.

So, I've been rehearsing Night of the Living Dead; and let me tell you, people, it's gonna be fun. If you didn't see the play last year, I highly recommend it. If you did see it last year, not only is it worth seeing again, but there are some slight changes that are sure to interest you. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll leave it at that.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is opening up this weekend. Even though it isn't part of the young adult shows, I think all of you would enjoy it. It has a great cast, many of whom are my friends, so go see it.

I've been going over the surveys from Sept. 13th and I think they are an invaluable tool to get your opinions brought up to the theater. Am I wrong? What do you think? Too many questions? Not enough questions? Too many dumb questions? Not enough? Tell me.

Also, I asked the question on the survey "Would you be interested in writing reviews of DCT shows?" - many of you said "yes". Perhaps our preview of Night of the Living Dead is a good chance to start this up. If you are interested, let me know. Maybe we'll talk about it before the preview.

Oh, and your Dallas Cowboys are 3 - 0! (trying to stay random)

Yours in Dallas Cowboy greatness,

Johnny Sequenzia

Recap of the First DCTYC meeting

This is a recap of the first meeting so that those who weren't there can find out what happened, and those that were there get to recall a fond memory from just a short time ago.

It was a dark and stormy night full of mystery.... just kidding. It was just a nice Thursday night of fair weather, but storms and mystery sound pretty cool. We started off by me forcing everyone to fill out registration forms. Oddly enough, nobody mentioned to me that this was their favorite part of the evening.

Anyway, we then had some pizza. There was a record total of 42 students at this first meeting, and thanks to the generous support of Cici's Pizza, everyone got their fill. After that it was time for a survey. Again, paperwork is probably not the most exciting activity for teens, but I assure you, the surveys are a great way to let DCT know what you think. So is this blog.

Finally, we were treated to workshop with Andy Long on improv. Many of the YC members have taken improv class before, so this was a great for them to apply their skills. I'm not sure if everyone who participated had improv experience, but it sure looked like it. ...It was fun!

That's about all we could fit into an hour and a half, so that's all that happened. But not to worry DCTYC members, next month's meeting (October 11th) is from 7:00-9:30. We get to watch a whole performance of Night of the Living Dead and then do a workshop on makeup with Doug Burks. So that's kinda awesome.

So long for now,

Johnny Sequenzia

First Meeting

Well people, the first DCTYC meeting is under our belts and I couldn't be happier. Not only did we set a record with our meeting's attendance, but we are now representing over 24 different schools in the metroplex...and growing. We had 42 students register for this year's YC, and then we ate a bunch of pizza. After that, everyone filled out a survey, and we got settled for an awesome workshop on improv with Andy Long. This gave some of the students who have taken improv class a chance to shine. I, personally, was completely impressed with everyone who participated. We've got some great talent in our council.

This makes me look like I know what I'm doing, so thank you.

I've had a chance to go over your answers on the survey you did on Sept. 13th, and the results are very interesting. Remember, these anonymous surveys are a great way to ensure your opinions are heard. So is this new blog!

So if you've got something to say to me or the Youth Council about...well anything, this is another opportunity for you. Comments and questions are not only welcome, they are encouraged. Please try to keep language as appropriate as possible, hopefully, this will be read by many people. Keeping that in mind, please be as honest as possible and let me hear it...or read it. So if you have something to say about our first meeting, or about DCTYC in general, go for it. DCTYC ROCKS!

Yours in awesomeness,

Johnny Sequenzia
